A recent study has found that apart from computer science and electrical engineering, students in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are more likely to opt for non-engineering jobs. The research also found that there is no significant difference in median salaries between core and non-core engineering jobs, and the highest paying jobs are taken up by computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering students. The study highlighted that students are driven by higher pay, flexibility in job profile, better growth opportunities, self-learning and an impression that there is a skill gap between the curricula and industry needs.
